It feels like tumbling out of bed and falling down a mountain with a frosty wind at your heels. Then a jolting adrenaline rush is unleashed with 'KC Accidental' led by drummer Justin Peroff's powerful charge. 'Capture The Flag' opens the album gently with its starry twinkle of synths and feather light horns, a familiar entry point for any fans that came on board via the band's debut. The players and vocalists who helped tour that first album were brought in to flesh out songs as part of a widening collaborative mindset for their follow up album. Though for the group's co-founder Kevin Drew, it was never a case of having too many chefs, but rather, tapping into the strength in their numbers. Maybe on paper the group's sophomore record You Forgot It In People – which skips from ambient to barrelling rock jams, pensive piano ballads to bossa nova inspirations – might seem like a group that's spread themselves a little too broadly. So, on the surface, it'd be understandable if one might approach a band like Broken Social Scene with some caution.Ĭomprising members of Metric, Feist, Stars, Do Say Make Think and others who've played for the likes of Godspeed! You Black Emperor and Arcade Fire, you'd be forgiven for thinking the Canadian supergroup might throw too many clashing flavours into their songs. There's a saying that too many chefs spoil the broth.
